IB Programme
The IB Program focuses on the growth of the individual. The Diploma Programme (DP) was established in 1968 to provide students with a balanced education, facilitate geographic and cultural mobility and to promote international understanding. It was created by teachers at the International School of Geneva, with assistance from several other international schools. Since then, innovative and committed teachers and examiners from around the world have played a significant role in development of the programme.
The DP curriculum is tied together by common philosophical strands such as international mindedness, the importance of lifelong learning, and skills development. These interdisciplinary connections are cultivated through the DP core elements - Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity, and Service. Since all Academy students participate fully in the DP, these strands and elements are introduced to all our students starting in 9th grade and are integrated into the core curriculum. This inclusion not only prepares students for the DP in 11th and 12th grade, but provides them with a well-rounded learning experience which is useful during their time at the Academy and beyond.
