School Bus Safety

Today's school bus is designed to strict federal and state regulations in order to provide the safest form of transportation in the United States. Every year each school bus used in transporting school students is subject to two (2) official PA State Inspections. In addition, the Pennsylvania State Police conduct one scheduled inspection of all buses each year, and periodically perform surprise inspections. Also, each driver is required to visually inspect his or her bus and to complete a “safety check” prior to the start of each trip.

Transportation Update

A new school year has not improved on the number of bus drivers available for our students. We are missing 28 bus drivers out of our normal 212 buses used per day. Mechanics and office staff for the bus contractors are filling in for 18 bus drivers. We eliminated 40 buses through consolidations which leaves us with packed buses and longer ride times.

If we do the math:

  • We need 28 additional bus drivers
  • We eliminated -40 buses with longer runs and more students per bus
  • Office staff -18 from the bus companies are filling in some of the gaps.
  • Buses needed 0 if all goes well.
