DASD Students take top honors at the 2022 Worlds Vex Robotics Competition

Local Team Awarded the VEX Robotics World Championship Excellence Award

Downingtown, PA – May 7th, 2022 – Downingtown Area School District students from Vexmen Robotics team 81P was awarded the VEX Robotics Worlds Championship Excellence Award. Students competed with and against the top 800 teams from across the world. The action-packed days required high school students to execute the 2021-2022 VEX Robotics Competition & Challenge games, presented by the Robotics Education & Competition (REC) Foundation.

The team won the VEX Worlds High School Excellence Award, it is the highest award given at the competition. This award entitles the team to automatically attend the 2022 VEX Robotics World Championship! This award is presented to a team that exemplifies overall excellence in building a high-quality robotics program. This team is a strong contender in numerous award categories.

To prepare for the tournament, each team worked together to design, build, and program a robot using VEX Robotics, that could quickly and efficiently solve specific challenges that come with playing the 2020-2021 game. Each week, the students apply what they have learned about STEM, to build these semi-autonomous machines. An equally important set of skills is learned through the competition -- communication, project management, time management, and teamwork. The students learn about electronics, programming, mechanical systems, animation, 3D CAD, computer-aided machining, web design, and materials fabrication.
