STEM Academy: DECA State Career Development Conference Results
submitted by Dr. Justin Staub, STEM DECA Advisor
For three days last week, 185 students and I were at the DECA State Career Development Conference at Hershey, PA. These students competed against 3,800 students in Pennsylvania, and STEM held its own.
We have 73 students who qualified for the national conference in Orlando (25 Apr - 30 Apr). To put this into perspective, we had 5% of the competitors, but we won 15% of the spots to ICDC. This didn't surprise me- we outperform every year. Maybe I've gotten used to how incredible these students are.
This year, of the 51 events, STEM students won first place in 13 of them!!! (That's 25% of the first-place awards from our 5% of the competitors.) This is incredible. We have NEVER done this well. Furthermore, Tara Woomer's DEHS contingent won another 6 first place awards-- meaning DOWNINGTOWN BROUGHT HOME 37% of the FIRST PLACE AWARDS!!!
We are very proud of our students' accomplishments.
In addition, Rishabh Jain was inducted as a PA DECA District 6 Representative and Sai Vytla was elected to a PA DECA Executive Council position. All the other specific achievements are listed below.
