Submitted by Mr. Ryan Dobson

A team of five STEM students – Saptak Das, Tanish Bezawada, Dishan Bhattacharya, Joe Butler, and Connor Walsh – placed 2nd in the first ever Wharton High School Data Science Competition sponsored put on the Wharton Sports Analytics and Business Initiative, in conjunction with Wharton Global Youth.  Over 300 teams, from 37 different countries, competed in the competition which required teams of students to use comprehensive data from a simulated soccer league, to make win-loss predictions about the league’s playoffs.  In the final round, they presented their methodology and final predictions live to a panel of judges including Wharton faculty and professionals from the world of sports analytics, including ESPN.
